What can Toastmasters do for me? How to run a Table Topics Session
|
Agenda for MeetingsMeetings at other Toastmasters clubs may have different formats, such as breakfast, lunch or dinner meetings with meals, or schedule a break for refreshments. Terrace's meeting, though early, does not include breakfast and there is no charge to pay for the meeting. You are welcome to bring coffee and something to eat if you wish. A printed Agenda is produced for each meeting, and a draft usually distributed by email beforehand. 7:00 am Sergeant At Arms opens the meeting, introduces Toastmaster. 7:01 Toastmaster introduces meeting and theme, welcomes guests and visitors and announces any changes to the printed agenda. 7.04 Table Topics Master gives a series of themes for short speeches (1min - 1:30) and calls on some lucky but unprepared person to give each speech as it is announced. Visitors and guests are normally asked beforehand if they wish to participate! Six to eight topics may be presented, depending on available time. 7:15 Tonic (or Word for The Day) - 2 mins 7:18 Table Topics Evaluation - for each of the Table Topics speakers. 4 mins 7:23 Project speeches (5-10 mins each), educationals or Advanced speeches (8-10 mins) - prepared in advance. 7:50 Evaluations of Project and Advanced speeches 7:58 Timekeepers report 8:01 General Evaluation: "Evaluate the Evaluators" and "Evaluate the meeting" are done by two separate evaluators in our club. Other clubs typically use a single General Evaluator. 12 mins 8:13 President makes awards and announcements, gives visitors a chance to comment and closes the meeting at 8:15 am.
